Why Your Voice Matters in Lansing

A message from the Lansing Business Alliance

Why Your Voice Matters in Lansing, NY

Lansing is a strong community built on families, small businesses, farms, service organizations, and long-standing employers. Many of these have been here for decades. They create jobs, support our schools, sponsor local events, and give Lansing its identity.

In recent years, more and more residents and businesses have told us they are struggling to navigate the Town’s planning and permitting process. People describe delays, shifting requirements, inconsistent interpretations of the law, and uncertainty about what is needed to move forward. Some projects have been postponed, some have become far more expensive than expected, and some have been abandoned entirely.

These experiences matter. But when they are only shared privately or casually, they are easy to dismiss. Town boards and departments rely on written records, not hallway conversations.

That is why the Lansing Business Alliance has created a Planning and Development Incident Report Form.

What This Planning & Development Incident Report Form Does?

The Planning & Development Incident Report Form gives residents and businesses a simple, standardized way to document what they experienced when working with the Town of Lansing. It allows people to explain what happened, how it affected them, and what they believe should be improved.

When these reports are collected, they create a clear picture of how current processes are working in the real world, not just on paper.

This is not about attacking anyone. It is about creating a factual, organized record that can be reviewed by the Town Board, the Planning Board, and staff so they can see where things are breaking down and where improvements are needed.

Why This Matters?

Without written reports, the town sees only a handful of applications and internal files. They do not see the lost time, lost money, stress, or abandoned plans behind those files.

Your experience helps answer important questions:
• Are rules being applied consistently
• Are timelines reasonable
• Are requirements clear and predictable
• Are projects being delayed unnecessarily
• Are businesses and residents being treated fairly

Real data from real people is how policies improve.

You Can Participate Even If Your Issue Is Over

Even if your project is finished, cancelled, or years in the past, your experience still matters. Patterns only become visible when many voices are recorded together.

Your Information Is Respected

You control how your story is shared. You can allow it to be used publicly, anonymously, or only in aggregate form. The Lansing Business Alliance will never release private contact information without permission.

How to Use the Form?

The form is simple and takes only a few minutes to complete. It can be submitted by email (info@lansingbusinessalliance.org) or in person to any representative of the Lansing Business Alliance. You do not need legal language or technical expertise. Just describe what happened in your own words.

A Better Lansing Starts with Honest Feedback

Lansing should be a place where residents can improve their homes, where businesses can grow, and where development happens in a predictable, fair, and transparent way.

Your voice helps make that happen.

If you have ever felt stuck, frustrated, delayed, or confused by the Town’s planning or permitting process, please take a few minutes to complete the Incident Report Form. Together, we can help Lansing work better for everyone.
